Mystery after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's friend's son dies aged just 9

The nine-year-old son of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ’s model friend has been found dead, his family has said.

Kelly McKee Zajfen, a former model and businesswoman, made the devastating announcement of George’s death on Instagram, alongside a picture of the young boy being piggybacked by his twin sister.

"My world is shattered into a million pieces," the 42-year-old co-founder of philanthropy community Alliance of Moms said.

"I have little ability to breathe. Walk. Function. Sit. Stand. You were the light of my life.

"Your smile made the room so bright and your heart was the most perfect and sweetest."

Zajfen said that she will: "Try hard for your beautiful twin sister."

An anonymous family friend told the Mail Online that George had heart problems that the family had been aware of.

The nine-year-old was found "unresponsive" at the family home, the source said. The cause of death remains a mystery.

"They're still waiting on the autopsy results," the source said.

"I don't even think she (Kelly) knows right now. He was just found unresponsive.”

Zajfen has a surviving daughter - George’s twin - who has a cardiac condition and wears a pacemaker.

Meghan and Harry, who are friends with the family, donated $5,000 to a GoFundMe made in George's honour under their children's names.

The aim of the fundraiser was to raise money to be donated to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Meghan reportedly met Zajfen through her ex-husband Trevor Engelson.

Mr Engelson, who was said to be friends with Zajfen's entertainment lawyer husband Julian, had also donated to the GoFundMe.

Meghan and Zajfen stayed connected through her Alliance of Moms, a community in which actresses Kristen Bell and JoAnna Garcia Swisher were also involved.

Zajfen’s tragic post announcing George's death said: “My sweet baby boy. My world is shattered into a million pieces. “I have little ability to breathe. Walk. Function. Sit. Stand. You were the light of my life. Your smile made the room so bright and your heart was the most perfect and sweetest.

“You left this Earth and left behind so many people who loved you. I don’t know how I’m able to go on. How I can function. How I can be the light and have joy ever again but I’m going to try. Try hard for your beautiful twin sister.

“I can’t comprehend any of it.

“Thank you for my world and tribe lifting me and pulling me off the floor. I can’t do it with you.

“Funeral arrangements are being made and more details will follow.

The family is expected to provide more details as they come.
