The Route, the Crowd, and Why Your Position Matters
The Jamboo Savari covers roughly five kilometres, from the Mysore Palace to Bannimantap grounds, and the procession moves at the pace of a decorated elephant carrying a 750-kilogram golden howdah. That slowness is both the gift and the trap. The procession is visible for a long time from any fixed point, but the crowd builds in layers from the night before, and the layers closest to the barriers get there earliest. The route runs south along Sayyaji Rao Road, turns at the KR Circle, and continues along Mysore-Ooty Road to Bannimantap. Each segment has a different character: the palace gate stretch draws the densest crowd, the KR Circle turn gives a longer sightline, and the Bannimantap end is where the procession concludes with the Banni tree worship, quieter but still significant.
