MyMcDonald’s Rewards App: Everything to know about the new scheme

McDonald’s has officially launched a rewards scheme in the UK today (July 20) which will let customers collect points to spend on food or donate to charities.

It comes as some chains across the UK successfully took part in a trial which is now being rolled out elsewhere with the app offering customers with free menu items when a certain mile stone is reached.

Taking to their website the fast food chain explained what the new app meant for its customers and how you can redeem the freebies.

In an explanation they said: "The time has come, we are excited to launch our NEW Rewards program MyMcDonald’s Rewards in restaurants across the UK!

"You can now earn one point for every penny you spend on menu items and redeem them for free rewards. Plus, get a free Cheeseburger or Vegetable Deluxe to start you off and receive 1500 bonus points on your first order."

Michelle Graham-Clare, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: "We’re incredibly excited to launch the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme in the UK.

"As well as rewarding our customers with our iconic menu items, we’re delighted to give customers the option of donating points to our brilliant charity partners, which we know will make an incredible difference to the lives of many thousands of young people and families across the country."

So how does the app work? Here's what you need to know...

What is MyMcDonald’s Rewards?

According to the chain: "MyMcDonald’s Rewards is the brand-new McDonald’s UK customer loyalty scheme, exclusively available with the McDonald’s app. With MyMcDonald’s Rewards you earn one point for every penny you spend on our menu items at participating restaurants and can unlock free rewards. Alternatively, if you don’t fancy one of our food or drink products as a reward, you can even donate the value of your rewards points to one of our partner charities."

How can I join MyMcDonald’s Rewards?

In order to join MyMcDonald’s Rewards, you will need to download the app, register and sign in. Once this is done, you should be offered the option to opt-in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Simply accept the MyMcDonald's Rewards terms and conditions are you're ready to earn points and redeem rewards.

How does the MyMcDonald’s Rewards work?

Customers will earn 100 points for every £1 they spend via the fast food giant’s app with every penny equating to one point.

If you collect 1,500 points, this will allow customers to choose between menu items such as small fries, hash browns or a side salad. However if you collect 2,500 points, diners will be able to grab a free double cheeseburger or vegetable deluxe among other options.

If you want to go even bigger, 4,000 points will get you a Big Mac, Double Sausage & Egg McMuffin, Large Crispy Chicken Salad, six Chicken McNuggets or a McChicken Sandwich.

Customers can also choose to donate the cash equivalent of their points to BBC Children in Need, FareShare and Ronald McDonald House charities. Those who opt in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards and order and pay through the McDonald’s app will automatically earn points.

Alternatively, customers can get a one-time code, which is available in the 'code' section of the app at the start of their order at the drive-thru, kiosk or counter.

How long are the MyMcDonald’s Rewards points valid for?

Points will expire on the last day of the 12th month after you have earned them. For example, if you earn points on the 1st of August 2022, you can redeem these points until the 30th of August 2023.

You can't earn points though delivery apps such as JustEat but you can earn on McDelivery - but only if you order via the McDonald's app from a participating restaurant.
