Myanmar’s military dictator Min Aung Hlaing has said he has been “extremely lenient” towards detained civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi, falling short of suggesting her release in a rare interview.

The 81-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate has been in detention along with other democratically elected leaders of her government, which was overthrown in a military coup in February 2021.
