'My wedding clashes with Coronation - I won't change it but will have a nod to Charles'

On your wedding day, you'll hope that all will run smoothly, your nearest and dearest will have fun celebrating, but also that you'll be the star of the show, with all eyes on you while you're dressed to the nines.

However, for many couples getting married over the coming bank holiday weekend, their big day might be a little overshadowed by national festivities.

That's because King Charles' Coronation is taking place on Saturday, May 6 and there will be various royal events being held to mark the occasion over the next few days.

Experts at wedding planning website Hitched.co.uk have analysed their internal user data to find that May is the most popular month in Spring to tie the knot and a whopping 1,900 weddings are set to take place between this Saturday and Monday.

One such couple who will be saying their vows this weekend are Crystal Mylchreest and her husband-to-be Darren, but they aren't too worried about the clash and will be embracing it.

Crystal, a nurse from the Isle of Man, is preparing to walk down the aisle in mere days. She and her partner have been engaged since December 2021 and chose their wedding date in early January 2022.

The pair didn't know what they were getting in for when they picked their date, but refused to change it after learning of the royal significance.

Instead, they're quite excited about it and Crystal says they even feel as if they have a special "royal connection".

The 31-year-old explained: "We decided to stick with our wedding date - the fact that it will be coronation day has made it more memorable for guests too.

"In my opinion, it's a win-win because our wedding guests get to enjoy a long bank holiday weekend so there is plenty of time for them to get stuck into coronation celebrations if they choose or they can have some time for themselves perhaps recovering from a fun-filled wedding reception!

"We think that we are just meant to have a royal connection! I say this because our 'dating anniversary' has always been April 29 - which then became Kate & Will's royal wedding day!

"We don't mind sharing - at least the royals have good taste in dates!"

And while their wedding won't have a Coronation theme, the couple will have one special nod to King Charles on their big day.

Crystal admitted: "We are having a selfie station at our reception with some royal props such as crowns as our own little nod to the coronation."

The bride-to-be went on to share some touching advice for other couples getting married over the weekend, or soon, adding: "Enjoy your special day and try to soak up every minute of it because everyone tells me it goes so fast!

"On the day, I'm sure the last thing on our minds, as the bride and groom, will be the royal celebrations but you can always remind your guests that the coronation will be available on catch-up TV so enjoy a glass of bubbles and make precious memories on such a special day!"

Her sentiments were echoed by Zoe Burke, a wedding expert and Editor of Hitched.co.uk, who shared her own message for those whose weddings fall on the same date as a big event like this.

"You want to be the centre of attention on your wedding day, so it's understandable couples might feel a little worried to know the King's coronation is also taking place on their special day.

"However, there are some positives; your wedding date will go down in history, and no one is likely to forget your anniversary! You will also have the bonus bank holiday to recover, so you and your guests can party even harder!"
