Many of us are thankful to have New Year's Day off from work as we recover from the heavy drinking antics of New Year's Eve. However, one woman hates how people are always "hanging" on the bank holiday, and she has a pretty valid reason.
Faye Kingston - who celebrates her birthday on 1 January - despises the first day of the New Year despite it being a special occasion. She says that her friends have little to no time for celebrations, meaning that she often spends the special day cooped up at home with her husband.
The influencer and content creator, from London, told the Mirror: "Having a New Year's Birthday sucks as it's exactly a week after Christmas.
"As such, everyone is tired of parties and spending time with families, etc, which means people generally just want to be a bit anti-social and focus on healthy eating or exercise for the first week of January.
"Nobody has any money as they're all skint from buying Christmas presents," she added.
Faye - who boasts more than 80,000 followers on Instagram account @fayedickinsonx - is celebrating her 30th birthday today, but it doesn't sit well for the social media star seeing as no one is willing to celebrate.
She explained: "I usually spend my birthday at home with my husband purely because a lot of restaurants, etc, are shut on New Year's day.
"On top of that, everyone is hanging from the night before (New Year's Eve) and doesn't want to do anything on my actual birthday or some of them doing a dry January - yawn."
Faye has learnt to deal with the unfortunate timing of her birthday, but that doesn't mean she's not fed up by it.
She said: "Most of my friends make plans on New Years' Eve, then when they're hanging on my actual birthday - it aggravates me.
"Like why can't you have a quiet New Years' Eve so we can actually do something on the actual day of my birthday?" she asked.
In a bid to celebrate the last year of her 20s, Faye convinced close friends to join her for a party last year, but was stumped when she contracted Covid.
She explained: "I wanted to celebrate my last year of 20s at the start of 2022 by having a party and I ended up having Covid, so I had to cancel my birthday last minute, which was super annoying.
"As if having a birthday on New Year's Day isn't bad enough."
Unfortunately, this isn't the only upsetting situation to have happened during a potential birthday bash as Faye explains friends have a history of letting her down.
Hoping to celebrate her milestone 21st birthday, pals promised they wouldn't party too hard the night before, but things didn't quite go to plan.
Recalling the night, Faye said: "When I turned 21, I organised all my friends to come over on New Year's day for a party. Out of ten people, only two made it because simply all others had planned on New Year's Eve and they promised to not go too hard on night before.
"Surprise surprise... they did and ended up cancelling on me!
"I had fallen out with them big time but of course, they made up to me after. However, it did ruin my birthday a little as it's not how I wanted to spend my 21st."
Fortunately, however, not all hope is lost for Faye as she's hoping that this year's birthday bash will be the best to date.
The influencer is jetting off abroad to celebrate her milestone birthday in style - and what better way than laying back in the sunshine?
Faye said: "I'm turning 30 on the 1st of January, so I'm going to Bali with my husband. It's my first ever birthday abroad, so I am looking forward to that.
"Hopefully, it will be the best birthday to date! Dirty Thirty here I come."
