Former NSW premier Bob Carr has farewelled his wife of 50 years in a moving tribute after describing the heartbreaking moment she died in his arms.

Helena Carr was remembered as an accomplished businesswoman who was full of zest and joy in a funeral at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney on Tuesday.
