My Lovely Horse Rescue is appealing for donations as more animals arrive at their shelter in need of veterinary care.
The animal charity has said the ongoing dog crisis in Ireland is putting a strain on their resources, as more and more pets require medical attention upon arrival. The DSPCA has also reported an increase in their surrenders as the Dublin based shelter is currently at full capacity.
My Lovely Horse Rescue takes in a wide range of animals and often deals with strays who have been treated cruelly in past lives. The charity most recently rescued a dog from an abandoned horsebox, who will need veterinary care after sustaining nasty rashes and cuts on her paw. She was given the surprising name of Saoirse Ronan upon arrival by volunteers.

The charity's co-founder Martina Kenny said: "Saoirse was found in wasteland with lots of rubbish around and was trying to sleep in the horsebox. The bills are rising all the time because of the amount of animals who are in need of help. The numbers are doubling, it's just nuts."
The charity is encouraging people to consider donating to their website as they grapple with rising costs. Once off donations are always welcome but My Lovely Horse Rescue is hoping to get more people on board to donate a set amount per month, such as €5.
Martina added: "It's awful to have to ask for money but we need to rescue these animals and give them everything they need. The main problem is that there’s a huge dog crisis right now even pounds are full and dogs are starving on the street with nowhere to go."
The group is also calling for Gardai to tackle the issue of animal cruelty in the wider community. The group is campaigning for a dedicated animal welfare unit to be set up in each Garda station nationwide.
The charity is also hosting a fashion show fundraiser this May to assist their animals. People can donate to My Lovely Horse via their website.
