The 1965 Brain of Britain, he reached the semi-finals of Mastermind, earned a doctorate in sports journalism, penned the ‘Now You Know’ sporting questions column in the Evening Times for 34 years and provided trust and authority on STV’s Scotsport, Radio Clyde and BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound. Reading the eulogy at his funeral in 2008, his son-in-law compared him to Google before Google and Wikipedia before Wikipedia.
