'My best friend told me she hates my daughter's name - she says it's ridiculous'

Whenever you decide to reveal your baby's name, your family and friends are bound to react to it in some way - and it can be a shock to find out some people don't like it.

While they may not openly criticise it, a blank look or a half-hearted compliment can give away what they really think.

But one mum has revealed how her friend bluntly told her she "hated" the name she decided for her baby, leaving her stunned.

The anonymous woman explained that she and her partner had decided on a name for her daughter which they both loved.

But when she revealed it to her friend, she told her she was being "ridiculous" for choosing a 'plain boy's name' for a girl.

"Worried," she took to Mumsnet to seek advice on whether she was making a big mistake.

Her post read: "Me and OH [other half] have agreed on a name for our daughter that we both love. I told one of my friends our choice and she said it’s ridiculous for me to pick a 'plain boys name' for a girl.

"We aren’t changing our minds, and we are very set on this name for our baby.

"I just hope if people don’t like the name and are rude about it when she’s here, it will grow on them the more they think about it.

"Should I be worried?"

After receiving a slew of comments from Mumsnet users asking what the name was, she finally revealed that it was Brynn.

She said: "The name is a name that can be used for both genders but comes across as more of a girls name (in my opinion), and I always thought it was a girl’s name. It’s pretty unusual and has a soft name, but it’s not anything super masculine.

"The name is Brynn (pronounced as brin)".

"Cute name, don't worry about your friend, and don't tell anyone else!" replied one user.

Another person commented: "Your friend is rude. F*** her. Don't tell anyone else the name till she is here. People are much less rude when faced with the actual baby."

A third wrote: "This is why you never reveal the name before the birth. Who cares what she thinks? She would no way have said that once your baby had arrived."

"I think it's lovely," said another.
