Mushtaq Khan cause of death: Veteran Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his roles in Welcome, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Jodi No. 1, has died. The actor passed away at around 7 pm on Thursday, September 24, at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital, where he had been admitted for the past 15 days.
Khan had been battling cancer. His business partner also confirmed the news to Hindustan Times' HT City and said the actor had been diagnosed with lung cancer earlier.
According to AajTak, Khan's health had worsened in recent days and he was admitted to hospital, where he was kept in the ICU. The report said his cancer had first been diagnosed around five years ago and had become serious again recently.
Mushtaq Khan death reason: Business partner confirms cancer relapse
Khan's business partner, Shivam, confirmed his death to HT City and shared details about his health.
"He (Mushtaq Khan) passed away around 7pm on Thursday. He had been detected with lung cancer earlier and had got well. However, it relapsed eight days back and had to be admitted to the hospital. It was last-stage cancer," Shivam told HT City.
The actor had reportedly been undergoing treatment after his cancer returned. His condition deteriorated and he was admitted to Nanavati Hospital, where he spent the last 15 days of his life.
Sunil Pal mourns Mushtaq Khan's death
Soon after the news emerged, actor-comedian Sunil Pal paid tribute to Khan on social media. Sunil Pal shared a picture of the veteran actor on his Instagram Stories and wrote, "RIP Mushtaq Khan saab."
The two actors had also been connected by an incident that made headlines in 2024, when Khan was allegedly kidnapped in Uttar Pradesh.

Mushtaq Khan was an Indian film and television actor and comedian who worked in Hindi cinema for more than three decades.
He appeared in several Hindi films during his career and was known for his supporting and comic roles. His notable films included Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke in 1993, Jodi No. 1 in 2001 and Welcome in 2007.
Khan was particularly known for his role as a disabled hockey player in Welcome.
Born in Baihar town in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, Khan built a long career in Hindi films and television.
Mushtaq Khan kidnapping case: What happened in 2024?
In November 2024, Khan was reportedly kidnapped on the Delhi-Meerut highway, with his kidnappers allegedly demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
According to information provided by his business partner Shivam Yadav, Khan had been invited to Meerut on the pretext of attending an award show. On November 20, 2024, he arrived in Delhi and was allegedly misled into getting into a car.
He was then taken to a remote location near Bijnor, where he was allegedly held and tortured for around 12 hours.
How did Mushtaq Khan escape from his kidnappers?
Khan reportedly managed to escape after hearing the morning azaan. He subsequently sought help from local people. Initially, he did not file a police complaint following the incident.
However, after comedian Sunil Pal was allegedly involved in a similar kidnapping case, Khan approached the police and registered an FIR in Bijnor.
He provided evidence including flight tickets, bank transaction details and CCTV footage, according to the information provided.
Mushtaq Khan kidnapping: Police arrested four accused
The case was investigated by Uttar Pradesh Police, which identified Lavi Pal and Arjun Karnwal as two of the main accused allegedly linked to the cases involving Khan and Sunil Pal.
Police later arrested four accused: Sarthak Chaudhary, Sabiuddin, Azim and Shashank, in connection with the case. Police also recovered Rs 1 lakh from their possession.
The investigation into Khan's alleged kidnapping drew attention because it came around the same time as the probe into the alleged kidnapping of Sunil Pal.

Mushtaq Khan remained a familiar face in Hindi cinema and television through a career spanning more than three decades.
While his performance in Welcome remains one of his best-known roles, he also appeared in films across different genres and became a recognisable supporting actor in Bollywood.
