'Mundy Four Hundy' AFL train gathers steam

The 'Mundy Four Hundy' train is gaining momentum, with Fremantle midfielder David Mundy keen to keep playing "until they kick me out".

Mundy will play his 366th AFL match in Saturday's clash with Carlton at Marvel Stadium, drawing him level with Bernie Quinlan in equal 10th spot on the AFL/VFL all-time games played list.

The veteran Dockers midfielder turns 37 next month, but he is still performing well and building a strong case to earn a one-year contract extension for 2023.

If all goes to plan, Mundy will become just the sixth player in AFL/VFL history to reach the magical 400-game milestone late next season or in early 2024.

The 'Mundy Four Hundy' social media posts have been humming along since Mundy became Fremantle's games record holder last year, and it seems the man himself is keen to give the 400-game milestone a crack.

"Within games I'm feeling really good," Mundy said.

"I'm recovering and pulling up from games really well.

"I'm still getting a whole lot of training in during the week and I still love the Monday to Friday grind.

"The competitive nature of football, I'm still really thriving on that. I'll be here until they kick me out."

Mundy is estimated to have travelled 885,337km during his 19-year AFL career, making him the most-travelled player in VFL/AFL history.

It puts him about 25,000km ahead of former teammate Matthew Pavlich, who himself notched a whopping 353 games during his decorated career.

In another amazing stat, there have been 11 Fremantle players to reach 200 games and Mundy has played in all of their 200-game milestones.

But all good things must eventually come to an end and Mundy has already completed some coaching courses to help him prepare for a potential mentoring career once his playing days are over.

Mundy is already acting as a form of on-field coach under Justin Longmuir.

"I see that as a large part of my on-field value," Mundy said.

"I remember coming through as a young fella myself and the direction I had from guys like Peter Bell, Shaun McManus, Troy Cook, Paul Hasleby - those kind of guys was immense.

"It made me feel more comfortable in a pretty intimidating environment.

"Through experience I feel like I see the game pretty well, I understand what we're trying to do and can pick up opposition trends.

"I try to help the team as best as I can in those moments."

One major thing missing from Mundy's career is a premiership and the Dockers are in the hunt to achieve that this year following a hot 10-3 start to the year.
