Mums share how they've bought children's Christmas jumpers from as little as £1

Christmas can be an expensive time of year and this year more than ever families are struggling to make ends meet.

With rising food costs and energy bills, many households have found themselves only just able to cover the essentials.

So with Christmas Jumper Day on the horizon next week, it seems many parents are reluctant to shell out on something that's often worn just once or twice.

Mum Nesa shared in a bargain Facebook group how she's managed to get both her children's jumpers from the Vinted website for £6.50 plus postage.

"They are in immaculate condition because kids outgrow them so fast and usually just wear them once," she said. "Also great way to recycle."

And more than 150 parents responded, many of them mums saying they do exactly the same - buying from either Vinted, eBay or a local charity shop.

"I always grab them from the charity shop for a pound or two," said one. "Mine only wear them on Christmas Jumper Day."

"I got my son's jumper from Vinted for £2," said another. "Never been worn before either, absolute bargain."

One mum said she'd bought and sold Christmas jumpers on the site, which describes itself as an 'online marketplace for buying, selling and exchanging new or secondhand items, mainly clothing and accessories'.

"I just ordered my son's on Vinted last night and also sold three that have been hardly worn," she said. "Deffo agree as they cost so much now."

Mum-of-three Agnesa told the Manchester Evening News she's heard of so many people buying and selling on Vinted recently.

"It’s amazing," she said. "It has been a godsend to me the last few weeks in terms of school occasions and general wear like pyjamas. It helped me out financially and it would be great to help out other families."

Only last week we reported how shoppers were rushing to make the most of 20% off discounts on the knitwear at stores including Peacocks and Matalan. And one mum revealed how she found her bargain Christmas jumpers at Poundland.
