Thousands of working mums have lost out on up to £500million in maternity pay because of a loophole in Universal Credit payments, according to a charity.
Maternity Action claims as many as 85,000 women have missed out pay awarded through Maternity Allowance, worth £4,500 on average per person.
The charity explains that a woman claiming Universal Credit at the same time as Maternity Allowance has her maternity pay deducted from the amount she can claim on Universal Credit.
