Mumbai's Bhatia Hospital has been ordered to pay Rs 37,000 in compensation after the Maharashtra State Consumer Commission found that its staff kept a two-day-old newborn separated from his mother for more than nine hours following a cashless insurance rejection, despite the father having already deposited an amount exceeding the total bill.
The order, passed on 21 July 2026 by the state commission comprising Justice S.P. Tavade and Member Vijay C. Premchandani, overturned an earlier district commission ruling that had dismissed the complaint.
