MUMBAI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has unearthed a gold smuggling racket allegedly carried out with the assistance of two employees of a private airline and recovered 2kg gold worth Rs 1.1 crore. DRI also suspects that a total of 18kg gold worth Rs 9 crore has been smuggled since this February.
On Wednesday, the directorate arrested Dashrat Sawant and Ganesh Patil, both employees of the airline and attached to the housekeeping department, and are on the lookout for brothers Ahmed, Arman and Sayyed who allegedly lured the duo into the racket.
