Mumbai down Gujarat, clinch Vijay Merchant Trophy

MUMBAI: Mumbai on Friday clinched the Vijay Merchant Trophy (for Under-16), when they thrashed Gujarat by an innings and 38 runs on Day Three of their final at Alur on Friday. Mumbai bowled out Gujarat for 193, with Nikash Nerurkar (4-56), Vedant Gurav (3-36) and Parsoon Singh (3-47) being the main wicket-takers.

Resuming at 331 for seven, Mumbai were all out for 376. They had bowled out Gujarat for 145 in the first innings.

"From Day One we followed a process. Everybody worked hard. Everybody was disciplined and made an honest effort.

"We had decided from the start that our fitness would be at the highest level. We won because of our brilliant fielding and catching," Mumbai Under-16 coach Sandesh Kawle told TOI.
