Mumbai: BMC team visits Ranas' Khar flat second day in a row

MUMBAI: For the second day in a row, a civic team on Thursday visited the eighth floor flat of Amravati MP Navneet Rana & MLA husband Ravi Rana located at Lavie building in Khar. However this time again they had to return back without being able to inspect the premises as the Ranas had not returned back from jail following their bail orders.

BMC officials said that they were now expecting a letter from the Ranas as to a date and time when they would be available and that they would return back once again.

An officer speaking to the media outside Lavie building on Thursday said, "We had come to conduct at inspection. We will come back again based on the time when they would be available."

In a letter sent to the Ranas even though it was not directly addressed to them but to the owner and occupier of the 8th floor apartment BMC designated officer of H west ward said, "The office has already issued a notice under section 488 of MMC act 1888 in order to inspect the premises taking photos and measurements. In pursuance of it, the office staff had come to inspect the premises but the same was found to be locked because of which inspection could not be carried out. Hence this office will carry out the inspection on May 5,11 am and thereafter anytime. You are hereby requested to cooperate and make your premises available for inspection. On failure to do so further necessary action as deemed fit will be initiated by following due process of law."

Apart from it, the designated officer of BMC has also written to the Khar police station stating that at the time of their visits to the building there have been several media who are present and this being a sensitive issue police bandobast is needed during inspection whenever done.

On May 2, Monday the BMC issued an inspection notice to the Ranas for their flat in Khar west. The notice has been issued under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) act 1888 section 488 which empowers civic officials to visit any building and ascertain whether any illegal alterations have been undertaken.
