Mumbai: Amid claims of rigging, BMC scraps Rs 160 crore laundry project

MUMBAI: With allegations of cost escalation, rigging of bids and cartelisation coming to the fore, the BMC has scrapped tenders for its Rs 160-crore tunnel laundry project citing land shortage. Additional municipal commissioner Sanjeev Kumar said the tenders were cancelled due to shortage of land for constructing the laundry and that the BMC would re-invite tenders after exploring other options.

"We have cancelled the tenders since there was some shortage of land required for the tunnel laundry at the Sewri TB Hospital. The department said the land required wasn't available for a tunnel laundry. We will explore other options and invite fresh tenders," said Kumar.
