A woman has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after faking her own kidnapping to police. Sherri Papini, 39, made false statements to the FBI claiming she was snatched by two Hispanic woman while out jogging in California.
After failing to pick up her children from nursery, she was reported missing by her husband in November 2016. Three weeks later, Sherri was found 'beaten up' by the side of the road, the BBC reports.
When questioned by police, she made up an extraordinary story of her abduction, insisting that she had been abducted at gunpoint. However, in March this year, the FBI determined that Sherri's claims were entirely fabricated - and that she had actually been staying at an ex-boyfriend's house, according to Wales Online.
