Mum steps in to help 'little old lady' struggling to pay in Lidl queue

A mum stepped in to help an elderly lady who was struggling to pay for her shopping in Lidl.

Dawn Beard, along with another woman, saw the lady having issues with paying for her shopping at the Lidl store in St Helens.

Straight away, the mum-of-three knew exactly what to do.

Dawn said: "A little old lady was struggling to use her bank card, it then got blocked because she forgot her pin three times, so me and another lady paid for her shopping. It's so hard to ever imagine being in that position."

The 45-year-old believes it is important that the community comes together and supports each other.

She told the ECHO: "I wasn't on my own in paying - another lady gave me money to put towards it too, I just couldn't stand there and watch how upset she got, I would like to think that someone would of helped me in that situation."

Dawn will soon be out of work, but still says she would not hesitate to help someone out in a time of need.

She added: "We do have to help each other out in times of need. It's community spirit if you like. I myself am out of work as from March 11. My temporary contract has come to and end so money will be tight. I would still help anyone who was struggling though."

Dawn's Facebook post explaining what had happened received an array of comments, all commending her actions and the town's community spirit.

One comment said: "This fills me full of pride, that people of St Helens are so kind, this installs so much confidence in me, and St Helens folk are superb."

While another added: "There are still genuine people in this town, so nice of you both. Love it, nice to hear good instead of bad things about St Helens well done made my day."
