Mum saved from knife wielding ex by loyal dog

A young mum was saved from her violent, knife-wielding ex when her loyal dog attacked the thug giving her chance to escape.

Kirsty Burrows has spoken out about her traumatic experiences at the hands of abusive Jake Shaw, 30, who has been to prison twice for attacking her. But the final occasion could have proved more devastating had her Cane Corso, named Jet, not "launched itself" at Shaw as he tried to grab her while holding a combat knife.

Shaw, originally from Huddersfield but who moved in with Kirsty at her St Helens home, was jailed for 10 months at Liverpool Crown Court this week after admitting two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Kirsty.
