A Mumsnet post, sharing a woman’s devastation at Boris Johnson’s departure from the race for Prime Minister, is baffling Twitter users. With many left asking if it is real, or actually a heartfelt plea for the return of Johnson.
Taking to the social media platform, one person shared a screenshot of the poem, writing: "I don’t often look at Mumsnet these days. I’m glad that on the few occasions that I do it still seems to be as utterly mental as ever."
The anonymous Mumsnet post outlined the writer's crushing disappointment at Boris Johnson's departure from the leadership race, saying: "I am absolutely devastated it’s gone down this way. Boris had a mandate to deliver on. He’s been denied that opportunity again. I am shattered that my PM won’t be the PM again."
The postee goes on to blame Rishi Sunak’s lack of loyalty, adding: "That we have someone who rode on Boris’s coat tails. Boris made Rishi and now look how he’s treated him. Boris dedicated his life to public service and deserves better than this."
Sunak is now in post and is unlikely to budge – for now at least. But that hasn’t stopped this Mumsnet user from yearning for Johnson to be back at the top seat of the Cabinet table.
"I want to see him back in power and hope and pray that I do in my life time. But for now, goodnight gentle Boris. Your demons overcame you on this occasion, but I know you will fight back."
The dramatic post was quickly followed by a four-verse poem, dedicated to Johnson. Super fan or political groupie, the writer gives a hint of what they consider to be Johnson’s inner turmoil. The first two verses summed it up:
Carrie came to me today,
And said it was time to go,
I looked at her and smiled,
As I whispered that “I know”
I then turned and looked behind me,
And see my children asleep,
All my cabinet were around me,
And I could hear them weep.
In 10 Downing street up above.
But twitter users were having none of it.
"Please tell me this is a parody," begged one. While another said: "That's just absolutely spectacularly unhinged. Bravo to whoever penned that."
Others were left puzzled and questioning reality, asking if Boris Johnson had died as they felt it seemed like a eulogy. A third replied: “It comes across as a eulogy. Have I missed something?”
Some didn’t mess around with their observation: “WTAF is genuinely the only thing that came into my mind after I stopped vomiting.”
And finally, several comments questioned the veracity of the post: “This definitely has to be a troll, I can't believe this is a real person.”
