Mum's tiredness after work was part of undiagnosed autism and 'masking to fit in'

Mum-of-two Carrie Kearns spent most of her life knowing she was different and struggling to fit in. Carrie struggled with friendships and work colleagues.

The 40-year-old said she always considered herself a loner but everything changed for her when she was diagnosed with autism. The Bolton mum has spoken of her relief after discovering the real reason why she was experiencing these difficulties.

“Ever since I was a child, I noticed I was different,” she told the Manchester Evening News. “I didn’t seem to be able to fit in with other children my age and I was always a bit of a loner playing out on my own; I was more interested in nature and playing with plants and bugs than the games my friends were playing.
