Mum's terror as violent ex 'orders petrol bombing from jail' as baby daughter sleeps

A young mum is living in terror amid fears her car was petrol bombed on the orders of her violent ex from his prison cell.

The frightening incident unfolded as the woman was asleep with her baby daughter in the dead of night.

Horrified neighbours raised the alarm banging on the door of her Elderslie home as flames engulfed her Volkswagen Golf, the Daily Record reports.

Now a source close to the family, who can't be named for safety reasons, says the attack has left the victim terrified.

The woman's former boyfriend was recently locked up on domestic abuse charges.

The source told the Record it is believed he ordered the attack from jail.

They claimed: “Her ex-partner had been making threats from the jail to blow up her car so when this happened, we knew straight away that he was behind it.

“The worry is that we know it’s not him who physically carried the attack out – he’s obviously sent somebody.

“We don’t know who these people are, or what they are capable of.”

The woman has barely eaten or slept since the incident last week.

The source added: “She is terrified – this happened right outside her gate, just metres from the room where her baby sleeps.

“It was so scary for her, to see the car up in flames like that and it’s petrifying to think about what would have happened if the flames had spread to the house.

“Now she’s worried about another attack and she is sitting up at night, watching from the window, while her daughter sleeps.”

Police have launched a probe after the incident, which took place at 12.55am on Monday, February 21.

Officers say the fire is being treated as wilful and their enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called around 0.55am to a report of a car on fire.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
