Mum's horror as dog attacks daughter, 6, on walk to school

A traumatised family is appealing for help after a schoolgirl was attacked by a dog.

Emma Bramell, from Halewood, was walking her three younger children to school on Tuesday through their local woods when her youngest daughter, Annabelle Walker, was "suddenly on the floor". Emma told the ECHO a large dog came out of nowhere and was on top of her daughter and her children were "screaming".

She said: "The lady who had hold of the dog was saying she was sorry but my main concern was Annabelle. The dog kept trying to get her and the woman was struggling holding the lead, in the end I told her to get away from us.

"I needed to get the baby up and sort her out and calm Megan and James down. I took the other two to school because we were closer to there than home and went straight to the walk-in who told us to go to Alder Hey.

"She's got a black eye and a cut on her eyelid and her head, other than that she's fine luckily. The dog went for my young boy but he was on a bike."

Emma says the injuries could've been much worse (Emma Bramell)

Emma said she has since called police but with limited information and lack of CCTV, there is little they can do without witnesses. She is urging anyone with information to come forward.

The mum-of-four said: "It couldn't been so much worse, she could've died if it got her neck or she could've lost an eye. If the lady knows it's vicious, the dog should have a muzzle on.

"Last night she had a nightmare about it and my boy is blaming himself, he tried to rescue her but we've had a chat and we've told him it's not his fault at all."

Emma was walking her children through the woods to school due to her car currently being broken. But her children are now "frightened" to walk that way and instead choose to walk the longer way to school in the morning.

A family member took to social media to urge anyone with information to come forward following the attack which was said to have left everyone "severely traumatised". It is believed the dog was a white husky type on a lead.

Anyone with information or concerns can contact Merseyside Police via their website or 101.
