Mum's henna warning after schoolboy, 10, suffers chemical burn and is left with scar of 'tattoo'

A mum is warning parents not to let kids have black henna tattoos on their summer holidays after her son suffered chemical burns that became infected and left a 'weeping' wound on his arm. Lynne Humphreys said she was on holiday in Turkey with a group of friends last month when her 10-year-old son Caden Humphreys got a dragon arm henna tattoo on their final day.

But 12 days later when it became lumpy, warm to the touch and began irritating him, the mum-of-two removed it hoping he'd got away relatively unscathed with just a 'light mark'. However Caden had an allergic reaction to the black henna, which became infected and caused his skin to split and ooze yellow fluid, as blisters spread on his torso and even up to his chin.

The 42-year-old even feared that Caden would contract sepsis but after three trips to the doctor, a course of antibiotics and two days off school, he'd made a full recovery and just left with a scar. With the school holidays fast approaching, the data processor is keen to raise awareness of the severe reactions that the temporary body art can cause so that no other child has to endure the same experience.
