One mum on social media has revealed her top tip for unclogging a blocked toilet.
Shauna Murphy, 33, stumbled upon this hack after seeking advice from her brother Richard. The mum said she tries to avoid using too many chemicals when cleaning her home, so Richard suggested using a simpler approach - just washing-up liquid.
Most people already have it in their kitchens for scrubbing the dishes, but many don't know that it can also be used to clear blockages in the toilet. All you need to do it pour it in the bowl and let it sit for up to a minute before flushing it down, Hull Live reports.
The stay at home mum from Hertfordshire said: "I was really happy it worked. Being a mum, I am always trying to find ways to clean without using many chemicals or making a big mess.
"If I use a plunger, I never know where to keep it after and I don't want to deal with the dirty water after."
She posted a video of the hack on TikTok, where the viral clip has now been viewed over five million times.
The comments are full of people praising Shauna for sharing the tip - including various plumbing experts who had no idea that it even existed. One professional drainer said: "I’ve been a drainage man for 18 years and I’m only just hearing about this."
Shauna's cleaning tips don't stop there. She has also come up with a genius way of keeping her child's toys organised using simple food produce bags.
She said: "You can find these bags around food and veg, they cost like 20p a bag. It’s a fantastic way to organise and transport toys.
"If you’re ever in a rush you can just pick up a bag and take it with you anywhere and it’s easy to organise and put away."
She also swears by using a fluffy sock to wipe down any dust on blinds. After placing it in a cleaning solution, running it along the dusty blinds makes them sparkling and lifts off any dirt.
Being a mum, Shauna knows that having a child can make it difficult to stay on top of the housework.
But by following a simple daily routine of washing clothes, cleaning surfaces and dusting, she is able to do a little each day and not allow it to pile up and get overwhelming.
