Mum's fury as kids 'grossed out' by green and grey mouldy Easter egg from Sainsbury's

A mum has voiced her anger after her children were "grossed out" by an Easter egg covered in green and grey furry mould.

Louis McGregor has complained to Sainsbury's, where she bought the £3.60 egg.

Mrs McGregor, from Brockworth in Gloucestershire, purchased two eggs a fortnight ago ready for a big Easter egg hunt for her two daughters, Gloucestershire Live reports.

She had travelled to a Sainsbury's superstore in Cheltenham to get the eggs specially, as her local one didn't have any.

Mrs McGregor then stored 'The Yolkers' eggs in a cupboard ready for the Easter celebrations this weekend.

She described her young daughters shock at opening up the box expecting a tasty Easter treat only to be greeted with mouldy chocolate.

Mrs McGregor said: "I bought them two weeks ago from the Cheltenham store. They didn’t have them in store in my local Barnwood store, so travelled to get them.

"Opened this morning (April 18) after the Easter egg hunt, and my daughter found this! I bought two for my daughters - Hattie, 7, and Flossie, 3.

"They were so disappointed! And grossed out!"

She continued: "I contacted Sainsbury's straight away and they said they would send me a gift card for £10.

"They said they’d only refund the one that was mouldy...I said ‘do you expect my daughters to eat the other one?’ They said they understood my disappointment - but I'm pretty sure they didn’t."

Mrs McGregor explained that the gift card is for £10, £3.50 refund and £6.50 goodwill gesture. She said she thought the gesture was "a joke" from "such a large reputable company".

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Cases like this are extremely rare and we have apologised to Ms McGregor for her experience. We have offered her a £10 gift card in the form of a refund and gesture of goodwill for her items.”
