Mum's DPD frustration as Christmas presents 'stuck in limbo'

A frustrated mum's Christmas presents are "stuck in limbo" at a DPD depot with no end in sight.

Joanne Convery, 41, from St Helens ordered her husband's main Christmas present on November 25, making sure she had plenty of time for it to be safely delivered to her home. The order was not specified as next day delivery, and the mum received a message from DPD on December 1 to say they had the parcel and would arrange delivery within the next 48 hours.

From there Joanne was sent a message from DPD saying her parcel was delayed due to an "unexpected issue" and they would deliver on Saturday, December 3 instead. She received the same "delayed" text message for three days straight, before the company attempted to deliver the parcel in the "only hour she was out" on December 6.

Joanne said: "They tried to deliver when I wasn't in the house, it was the only hour in the day I was not home. When I checked on the tracker after this it said it was being held in the depot.

"I then went online and changed it so it would be delivered to a Morrisons collection point, as I thought this would be easier but it kept being held."

The mum called DPD on Thursday, December 8 to ask about her husband's present, and she was told a new label would be printed and it should be delivered the next day.

She said: "I was then sent a text on the Saturday, Sunday, and Monday so I called them again on Tuesday and the woman told me the items get scanned every day they are in the depot, if they leave or not, and my item hadn't been scanned since December 8.

"I asked her if it [the parcel] was lost and she said it wasn't and that I needed to contact the seller to raise a complaint. I got in touch with the company and they have been great and raised a complaint.

"I know this is a massive problem and I'm not the only one going through this, but it's more frustrating than anything else. It would be worse if it was one of the kid's Christmas presents.

"I just think it's mad that I ordered this in November, which you would think was plenty of time and they can't guarantee when it will be delivered. It's apparently a case of whoever's seller shouts the loudest gets delivered.

"I just feel like the longer this goes on the more parcels are in the depot and the more likely it is to get lost."

Since then Joanne keeps being sent messages by DPD saying the parcel is "delayed" and says she feels like she is "in limbo".

A spokesperson from DPD said they understand the parcel is out for delivery today (Thursday, December 15) and did not comment any further on Joanne's situation.

Joanne's issues come in the same week as the parcel giant told customers to expect delays to its next-day delivery service because of industrial action at Royal Mail.
