A mum posting a package to her daughter at university was mowed down by an 84-year-old driver at a post office.
Karen Keagen, 58, from Texas, was sending her daughter Larissa, who was studying at the University of North Texas, a bag of goodies in West Houston at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.
The mum-of-two was killed after an 84-year-old woman drove her SUV through the front entrance of Westheimer Station post office.
Police believe the suspect hit the accelerator instead of her brake and drove through the front door of the post office - mowing Keagan down.
According to authorities, the suspect was trying to navigate her car in a disabled spot at the UPS outlet before the tragic accident.
The driver, who has not been identified, lives in the victim's neighbourhood and isn't impaired, according to authorities.
Harris County said they are investigating the suspect's driving record as they believe the incident was a tragic accident.
Sean Teare, from the County District Attorney’s Office, said: "We are going to turn over every stone.
"We are going to look at every single thing involved in this to ensure that it was exactly what it looks like, a tragic accident."
Daughter Larissa said she was "heartbroken" following the death of her mum.
She wrote on Facebook : "If anybody truly knows me or my sister, you would know that our mother is our entire world, and we were hers.
"The pain I am feeling from this is unlike anything I have ever felt before. I am heartbroken and I am at a loss for words or even room to comprehend this fully."
Melody Celedon, Keagan's daughter, also paid tribute to her mum on Friday, she said: "I just love her. She's the best person I know. She's who I talk to every day. Like I text her about everything."
The driver is not expected to face any charges related to the crash as investigators look to see if the elderly woman had been under the influence.
Mr Teare added: “Cars are deadly weapons, even when they were not intended to be such.
"They are thousands and thousands of pounds of metal that can get up to very high velocities. When you mix humans with that, tragic things occur.”
