Mum-of-two, 34, who was 'living her best life' dies on Tenerife family holiday

A mum who was "living her best life" on holiday in Tenerife has died of a brain haemorrhage aged 34.

Katie Capewell passed away during the family holiday in February, leaving behind her son, 12, and eight-year-old daughter.

The hairdresser, from Dudley, West Midlands, was diagnosed with a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and an aneurysm in 2019 - but never let this have a negative impact on her life.

The condition includes a tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain.

Tributes flooded social media for the salon owner who was described as a "beautiful person inside and out," reports Birmingham Live.

Residents in Pensnett, where Ms Capewell lived all of her life, gathered at her salon Rootz to light a candle in her memory on February 25.

Friend and colleague Leanne Southall described her as a "beautiful, inspirational, kind, caring, crazy, funny and talented lady who touched many hearts".

In a tribute, she said: "Our beautiful wife, mummy, daughter, sister, auntie and friend, Katie Marie Capewell, aged 34, sadly passed away with a brain haemorrhage whilst living her best life in Tenerife with her family on February 22, 2022.

"Katie continued to do what she loved, making memories and living her best life with her family and friends."

Ms Capewell started her career as a mobile hairdresser and worked hard with dreams of one day owning her own salon in Pensnett, Ms Southall wrote.

She added: "In 2017 Katie’s hard work, determination and ambition paid off and she was given the opportunity to achieve her dream and open her own salon in the heart of Pensnett by the Purewal family.

"Rootz by Katie Capewell was a success and within a couple of years, Katie expanded the salon.

"Katie’s clients had the royal service and were able to have all aspects of beauty under one roof."

Ms Capewell's family were said to be "overwhelmed by the love and support shared for Katie."

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise £5,000 to give Katie "the send-off she truly deserves".

Local businesses have also organised raffles to raise money for her send-off and to help her children continue to make memories and achieve their dreams "like their beautiful mum did."

Almost £4,500 has been raised so far.

In a recent update, Ms Southall thanked people for their "kind words and support at this heartbreaking time."

She added: "Kate loved life and loved everyone, she would be so overwhelmed with the support that has already been shown in different ways."
