A mum was stunned when her 'sore throat' turned out to be tonsil cancer. Gruelling radiotherapy burned her face and neck like it had been 'cooked in a microwave'.
Lisa Gooddy said she's suffered with sore throats since a child and noticed a white patch on her tonsils in 2019, so had it checked out by a GP who thought it was just tonsil stones. But a year later, the 'chatty' customer support assistant noticed her voice feeling tired so returned and after several appointments and various antibiotics, was referred to a specialist.
The 51-year-old was 'devastated' to eventually be diagnosed with stage T2 tonsil cancer in December 2020, which had spread to her soft palate and lymph nodes in her neck. The mum-of-three had chemotherapy and 33 lots of proton beam therapy to treat the cancer, which saw the skin on her neck become inflamed, red and sore.
