The mum of a teenage boy who was stabbed to death stood "crying" and watching as paramedics tried to save him in the street, eyewitnesses have claimed.
The 17-year-old boy who was knifed to death in broad daylight in Withington, Manchester, has been named locally as 'Kyle'.
The teen was in Southlea Road, Withington, Manchester, when he was attacked near an alleyway at around 11.30am on Tuesday.
He was airlifted to hospital but died as a result of his injuries later that day.
One eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, saw Kyle's mother speaking with paramedics as they tried to save his life.
She said: "His mum was standing at the cordon when the ambulance was giving him first aid and trying to save him.
"She wasn't allowed to go into the cordon but they were giving him CPR and a paramedic was asking her if he's allergic to anything and some other questions.
"It's so sad and it was horrible to watch her standing there, crying and unable to be with him."
The eyewitness said she had also previously seen drug dealings going on in the street in and claimed "troublemakers" often hang around the alleyway.
The footpath which links Southlea Road with a nearby social housing estate was also taped off with officers protecting it from both ends.
Terrified residents on the estate described living in fear of gangs of youths who "try to intimidate" them and driving along the alleyways on motocross bikes at all speeds.
Another man who asked not to be named said the alleyway is often used as a "getaway" by people trying to flee without being seen.
Just last year his family home was burgled and he showed the Mirror where he was forced to repair his fence as a result of youths regularly running through his back garden.
He said: "We've been here seven years and the crime is just getting worse. If you call a taxi they won't even come to this area to pick you up because it's not worth the risk.
"I won't let my daughter walk home from university alone because she's too scared. "She has to call one of us while she's walking and if it's dark we pick her up.
"People run through the back gardens and along the alleyways, it's a safe getaway for them without being seen. We can't say anything to them because if we confront them about it we're putting ourselves in danger.
"If we leave them to it they leave us alone but we have been begging the housing association for CCTV because it's so dangerous.
Another neighbour, Samina Ahmad, a teaching assistant, was setting off for work at 11.30am on Tuesday just as the horrific attack unfolded.
She said: "Thank god I didn't but I was going to walk through that ginnel to get to work because my car has broken down.
"At the last minute my daughter said don't walk, I don't want you to.
"She booked me a taxi instead. When the taxi turned onto Southlea Road even the taxi driver stopped because it was filled with police. We could hear the sirens and the helicopter.
"I could tell something horrible had happened. I told my colleague at work and she told me a young boy had been stabbed.
"There's always big gangs of teenagers wearing hoodies and covering their face, they're all on bikes or standing on street corners.
"They ride their motorbikes down the alleyway, they come spinning past us and taunt us shouting abuse and then they drive off again.
"I'm so scared of living here. I was putting in my documents to buy this house but I'm having second thoughts now.
"There's never a safe time to walk home, even during the day, it's just getting worse."
