A mum paid £800 for an eye treatment to fix her 'drooping' eyelids but it didn't go as planned and soon her whole face 'ballooned' - leaving her unrecognisable, even to her own kids.
Mariana Janse, 40, went in for plasma fibroblast therapy, where a device zaps a high-frequency electric current through the skin to encourage tissue regeneration.
She hoped it would 'take some years off' and she had the treatment done before parent's evening at her 13-year-old son's school.
But after the treatment Mariana, from Northampton, East Midlands, took a turn for the worse and her face swelled up - and when she went to the school her son couldn't recognise her.

Mariana, from Northampton, East Midlands, said: "I wanted to take a couple of years off, hoping I'd look like I was turning 35 instead of 41.
"I've got really droopy eyelids on the top and they literally hang on my eyelashes and I can see it - so it's not just looking at it, it literally annoys me for my vision.
"I've also got excess skin and dark circles under my eyes so I was hoping that would help tighten the skin a little bit because it's difficult to put make-up on because there's so much skin.
"Right after I just had red skin and little dots but when I woke up the next morning it was really, really swollen.
"On the second day I woke up it was super swollen everywhere - top and bottom - and then as the day progressed and the next day the swelling stayed but then my eyes became quite droopy as well.
"I knew what I was expecting but it was still a shock waking up and realising 'I've got to go to parents' evening and face my child's teachers looking like that'.
"The teachers asked me if I had an allergic reaction and I said 'no I'm just trying to look younger'."
The mum-of-four says she couldn't help but laugh about her extremely swollen eyes and having to face the teachers on parents' evening just one day after the appointment.
Most of her family also found it funny, but she says her 13-year-old son seemed to uncover an unknown phobia, with the sight of the burnt dots around her eyes made him feel 'uncomfortable'.

This left the teen unable to be in the same room as his mum for a few days and still unable to look at her face on Mother's Day.
Mariana said: "My family thought it was really funny but my son must have a fear of holes or something because he literally couldn't even look at me or be in the same room as me.
"It made him feel really uncomfortable and it was funny because it was Mother's Day on Sunday and he was worried about how he was going to spend it with me, looking like that.
"Luckily some of the spots had gone by then and he could at least be in the same room as me even if he couldn't look at me."
The anti-ageing treatment works by targeting the collagen and protein-producing cells in the skin, stimulating them and causing the area to tighten up.
The hot current creates small holes in the skin’s layer which have to be allowed to heal properly to avoid complications like scarring and pigmentation.
