Mum jokes Formby 'invaded by sharks' after morning beach walk

An "invasion of sharks" has plagued one Merseyside beach.

One beach walker noticed something when he and his wife ventured out to Formby beach this morning. The dad-of-three was shocked when dead "sharks" were spotted along the coastline.

The Formby based dad said there were about five dead "sharks" along one patch of the beach, although it appears that they are more likely dogfish. He told the ECHO : "We were walking the dog along the beach about half 10 this morning and he started barking at something.

"We go there all the time and I’ve never seen anything like that it looked like a shark. As we walked along we saw another one and another one, five in total on not a very big stretch of beach. My wife was joking Formby had been invaded by sharks. No idea what’s brought them all in but would be interested to find out."

One member of the National Trust, which oversees Formby beach, has revealed what people should do in situations like this. Kate Martin, Lead Ranger at National Trust Formby, said: "From time to time, wildlife may wash up on our beaches. This is a natural part of life on the coast.

"If you're visiting a National Trust beach and you spot wildlife that has washed up on the shore, we would ask that you avoid touching the animal, keep children and pets away from it, and get in touch with a member of our team so that we can assess the situation and remove the animal if necessary."

Just last week beachgoers were pleasantly surprised when seals were spotted on Formby and Ainsdale beaches. One woman said: "Wow I didn’t know we had seals."
