A mum is fuming after her son was told he could not attend a school trip.
Julie Allan's son is in year nine at St Michael's Church of England High School in Crosby. The mum said he came home on Monday evening and told her that he would not be allowed to attend the end-of-year ice skating trip on July 18.
After phoning the school Julie was told that teachers would only be taking the top 140 pupils out of a possible 500 in the school as a reward. Julie said that while she agrees with the idea of a rewards-based trip her son ranked 147 on the list and no criteria or reason has been given for his exclusion from it.

Julie told the ECHO: "He has always followed the rules and he was mortified when he got those detentions. There will be loads of good kids who will not have made it on the trip.
"He was never in isolation and if he had I would agree with him not going... but he got two silly detentions this year for not having a whiteboard pen in a lesson and doing the wrong piece of homework."
The problem Julie said is none of the children who have been excluded from the trip have been told why. The 52-year-old said that she now wants to plan an alternative trip for those not allowed to go.
Julie said: "My son is really upset and I have not had any letter or communication from the school. I have spoken to the head of year who said how lovely he is and some parents will be dark about this."
Julie has been in contact with the school to find out why her son can't go and wants to "form some sort of protest" by organising other parents together.
Julie said: "I think the teachers at the school work incredibly hard and a lot of this is down to poor leadership... There is complete ambiguity over this whole situation and it needs to be resolved.
"I work with someone whose daughter is only in year seven and she can't go because she had migraine and I want the school to send me the criteria in writing."
A spokesperson from St Michael's said: "Like many schools, we run end of term reward trips to incentivise good attendance and excellent behaviour. There was criteria set that students had to meet to in order to take part in this reward trip.
"We understand that some students and parents might be disappointed they have not met the criteria this year but there of course will be further opportunities for all students next year. If any parents have a specific concern they can contact the school."
