Mum dies trying to rescue drowning son, 10, in 'utter tragedy' at popular beach

A mum died as she desperately tried to rescue her drowning son who got into trouble swimming in the sea.

Joanna Wisniowśka rushed into the sea off Ballycroneen beach, East Cork, shortly after 1pm on Sunday after her ten-year-old son began struggling in the water.

Thankfully the young boy was able to make his way to rocks on the shore and he escaped without major injury.
