A young mum battered, threatened and cut with a knife in front of her screaming toddler is baffled at the "soft" sentence handed down to her thug ex-partner.
Kirsty Burrows was struck over the head with a spade and had a pillow placed over her face by her on-off boyfriend Jake Shaw, who then picked up a knife and began cutting himself while holding their young son.
Shaw, 30, was locked up for 10 months at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday after admitting two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm. The sentence means he will be automatically freed on licence after five months in prison, including time spent on remand.
