A mum has been arrested after the rotting body of her seven-year-old daughter was found decaying in a closet in an abandoned apartment.
Police in Georgia nabbed Alondra Hobbs, 27, and charged her with felony murder and cruelty in the second degree.
A police spokeswoman, Officer Elise Wells, said Hobbs was at a hospital Friday.
They added she will be transported to the jail upon her release.
She was charged on Thursday, according to police. They identified her daughter as Alivia Hobbs-Jordan.
The mother had a history of arrests, including one for simple assault in August 2019 and one for battery - family violence in May 2020.
The grim discovery of the child's body was made after a mysterious phone call to the police on Sunday, June 25.
DeKalb County police wrote in a report obtained by Law&Crime that the caller “did not give any further details and called from a disconnected cell phone.”
A man who claimed he made the discovery said that he was walking on the street when he noticed the front door to an apartment "wide open".
He told local WXIA that something seemed off about the doors being open and said he could smell a foul odour as he got closer to the property.
Upon entering the one-bedroom apartment, he noticed that the lights were off, indicating that nobody was present.
He said that all the furniture remained in place, and various items were left on the counter as though someone had departed hastily.
As he made his way towards the bedroom, he noticed that the closet door stood ajar, and something peculiar protruded from within.
To his horror, it was a human arm dangling from the door.
Recalling the details, he described the attire and hairstyle, deducing that it belonged to a young girl.
"You could tell it was a young girl by what she had on and by her hair," he said, adding that "she looked like a mummy."
A neighbour told police that the tenant had moved out and she had not seen her for a couple of months.
The officer who responded to the call said he saw what appeared to be a full head of hair and a decaying arm and leg in the closet.
Another officer found a piece of mail with the name Alondra Hobbs on it, according to the report.
Police have not said how the girl died.
