Mum and two young children 'savaged in dog attack leaving them covered in blood'

A mum and her two young children were reportedly savaged in a brutal dog attack on Friday evening.

One witness rushed to help after seeing the mum and kids covered in blood and bite marks in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the three were injured during the incident but The Mirror was unable to confirm this with Derbyshire police.

Police were called to an address in the rural town at around 6pm and officers removed two dogs, described as looking like Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

A large police presence, which included a dog removal van and a dog handler officer, was also pictured on the residential street.

But Derbyshire Police are, as yet, to confirm the dog attack.

Speaking to Derbyshire Live, one resident said: "There were quite a lot of police cars and it looked really serious.

"I think they had someone in the back of a police van but I couldn't see much."

Another added: "The police were next to the roundabout and they were there for quite a while.

"I can't imagine how the people involved must have felt."

The nature of the injuries and their severities are yet to be confirmed by the authorities.

It allegedly happened in the south of the town, which is a former coal mining centre in the Midlands.

The Mirror has approached Derbyshire Police for comment.
