A woman has caused a stir in the playground after she invited all but one of her daughter's classmates to her birthday party. The 28-year-old mum was planning her seven-year-old daughter's birthday celebration, and said she did not want to invite one little girl in particular.
She claims the youngster had previously bullied her daughter, meaning she wasn't deserving of an invitation in her eyes, the Mirror reports. Taking to Reddit, she explained how she had sent out invites to 20 people in her daughter Laura's* class, so that they could celebrate with her on her special day.
But her daughter apparently asked her not to invite another girl, who upset her multiple times by excluding her and calling her names. And the decision to exclude the classmate did not go down too well.
The mum posted: "One time Laura* came home crying because the little girl was so mean to her, telling her she wasn’t pretty and too chubby. She has come home crying several times because the girl has told her there’s no way she’s a cheerleader (Laura* does cheering on weekends) because she wasn’t 'pretty'.
"She has told Laura* she couldn’t play with the rest of the girls in the class when they were all playing jump rope at playtime. The other girls told her to let Laura* play, so when it was her turn, the girl purposely got her 'out' by not swinging the rope nicely. The teacher saw that happen."
As the mother and daughter were discussing party plans, Laura* asked that Laura wasn't on the invite list, which her mother agreed to. But this did not go down well, as she was cornered by Laura's mother shortly after handing out the invitations.
She continued: "The other girl's mother called me to talk about it saying how now her daughter is crying an how she was the only kid not invited and everyone at school is talking about the party. I explained her daughter isn’t nice to my daughter and that’s the reason she wasn’t invited - the mother knows this.
"The mother then asked if she had her daughter apologise and write Laura* a letter whether we would reconsider. I told her we would not and it has become a big deal every time I see the mum."
In the post's comments, some argued that the little girl didn't deserve an invite because of how she had acted in the past. One said: "Her kid has bullied yours so of course Laura doesn’t want her there. This is a great time for the bullies mom to teach them that actions have consequences."
While another agreed: "You aren’t teaching your child to be a bully, only to not socialise with bullies. Lol. Forced apologies aren’t useful to any situation. The other mother needs to move on somewhere. Perhaps take the time to teach her daughter that actions have consequences and no one wants the company of a bully."
But some spared a thought for Laura, and suggested that the two girls might be able to reconcile.
One said: "Personally I think you should ask your daughter whether she will accept the apology and invite her. Reconciling is better then making the other kid hate her. Since I am not a parent so I can't judge but I think other people might give you professional advice."
