Multiple airports at popular holiday destination forced to limit jet fuel use

  • Four airports in northern Italy, including Milan Linate, Bologna, Venice, and Treviso, have introduced jet fuel restrictions due to "limited fuel availability" from Air BP Italia.
  • The restrictions are in place until at least 9 April, with priority given to ambulance flights, state flights, and journeys over three hours, potentially affecting direct domestic routes most.
  • An aviation notice confirmed that refuelling services for operators contractually linked to Air BP Italia may be subject to these limitations.
  • Pierluigi Di Palma, president of ENAC, attributed the current fuel shortages to heavy Easter traffic rather than the Hormuz blockade, but warned of future consequences if the conflict continues.
  • While Italy reportedly has about seven months' supply autonomy, concerns persist regarding the European supply chain, with Ryanair's CEO warning of potential disruptions in May and June if the Iran-US conflict escalates.
