Multi-million pound plans to revamp Partington and Sale town centre revealed

Multi-million pound plans to revamp Partington, Sale town centre and the parks and trails across Trafford are in the pipeline.

Trafford council is applying for a share of a £4.8bn Government funding pot and plans to use millions of pounds for a number of projects across the borough. Including the refurbishment of Partington Sports Village, creating a health and wellbeing hub, resurfacing the current 3G football pitch on Broadoak School/Partington Sports Village. Works would include resurfacing the current pitch as well as creating another full sized pitch.

Cross Lane changing room would also be up for refurbishment. So is the Moss Lane Centre, which will be renovated and have some maintenance works to make it fit for purpose to enable Manchester Boys and Girls Club to run it and enable it to become a Duke of Edinburgh centre.

The estimated bid amount for these projects currently is in the region of £13.5m to £16m.

Partington, Trafford (Google)

The next set of projects involve Sale town centre – including highways improvements, active transport route improvements for walking and cycling. Highways improvements will be targeting:

  • School Road
  • Town Hall Junction
  • Northenden Road
  • Waterside Plaza
  • Sibson Road
  • Springfield Road
  • Ashfield Road
  • Hayfield/Hereford Street

Other areas that the funding will be used for include Stanley Square, Sale Leisure Centre and Sale Magistrates Court. These projects are set to cost in the region of £17.5m to £20m.

Another group of projects, costing an estimated £10m, include the restoration of Watling Gate within Newton Park, improvements to the public areas in Sale Waterside to link Waterside (Arts Centre) and Sale Library.

A Trafford Heritage Trail will also be created, connecting parks and cemeteries
which includes a provisional list of Gorse Hill, Victoria, Longford, Worthington and Newton Parks, Walkden Gardens, Sale and Brooklands Cemetery, Stretford Cemetery, Longford Park, Watling Gate, Urmston Cemetery, Davy Hulme Park, John Leigh Park, Denzell Gardens and Stamford Park.

The government funding is part of its levelling up programme and results of funding bids will be released in the coming months.#
