THREE Newcastle TAFE campuses will receive a multi-million-dollar funding boost over the next two years to improve digital infrastructure.
The state government investment of $74 million will be spread among 68 sites with $4 million injected across Newcastle's Hunter Street, Tighes Hill and Hamilton institutions.
The outdated 2009 network will be upgraded, enhancing connectivity across campus locations, and providing 14,900 new devices for students, employees, and teaching spaces.
By enhancing digital infrastructure, all students regardless of location, will have access to the technology they need to succeed.
Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp said Newcastle was an industry hub and a great place for future workers to learn and refine their trade.
"For years I have been fighting to see our TAFEs prioritised to combat the NSW skills shortage and it is fantastic to be part of a government that is doing just that," he said.
Minister for Skills, TAFE, and Tertiary Education, Steve Whan said to date, TAFE had already provided more than 6000 new classroom devices for learners.
"Investing in TAFE NSW ensures that the capacity to deliver skills for critical and emerging industries for a modern economy is increased, and key workers in priority industries are trained to build a robust, scalable, and skilled workforce," he said.
The first stage of the improvements, which include WiFi and digital infrastructure upgrades, will be completed at 28 campuses by the end of August.
An additional 40 campuses are scheduled for completion by June 2025.
