The Monklands toy appeal is back for its 10th year, with donations already arriving at supermarket collection points in both Airdrie and Coatbridge.
Supported by the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser and local good causes, the festive project invites generous local residents to gift new toys, games, books, toiletries and vouchers for young people aged from birth to 16.
They will then be distributed via volunteers to schools and local organisations helping young people to help make it a merry Christmas.
More than 12,500 gifts have been donated by big-hearted appeal supporters during the past decade.
Items can be handed in to the collection points at Asda in Coatbridge and at both Morrisons and Tesco in Airdrie until Friday, December 16.
Toy appeal co-ordinator Norbert Grant, who has assisted with distribution since the inaugural festive collection with the help of various community groups, is again at the helm and has this year enlisted the help of volunteer colleagues from Airdrie hillwalking group.
Members will collect the trolleyloads of donations from the three supermarkets and work to sort and distribute them to local schools, community nurses, St Vincent de Paul society and the @home centre in Airdrie – all of whom will ensure they arrive with deserving youngsters in time for Christmas morning.
Norbert said: “We’re looking forward to this year’s appeal and the supermarket staff are supporting it each year.”
The toy appeal is in progress now with collection points ready and waiting at each of the three supermarkets and will run for the next four weeks.
