A much-loved Chorlton cocktail bar closed its doors for the last time on Saturday night. The owners of Proof, on Manchester Road, posted to social media over the weekend that it would be their last weekend of trading.
“We are opening from 5pm for our swansong,” the post read.
“If you can make it down, we’d love to say goodbye. Thanks so much for having us, Chorlton.”

The bar was a staple for cocktail fans in South Manchester, with owners Carly and Andy Hick running it for 15 years, from 2007. Their Instagram account was promptly filled with messages of support from its many regulars, some particularly gutted folk hoping it was simply an April Fool’s joke.
One said: “We first walked in to proof after putting in an offer at our house on Keppel Road. I've never been so welcomed at a bar and immediately felt like I had made the right choice that it was home. Thank you so much to all the staff.”
Another added: “We have lots of amazing memories in this place… Lovely owners and amazing staff. Good luck to you all.”
The bar was also known for its snack board and weekend brunch menu, as well as its sterling cocktail menu, with a range of classics and seasonal specials and its wine club events.
It also boasted a large heated terrace to the front of the bar which was generally packed out during the summer months.
