MSU hockey beats Wisconsin in OT, salvages split

Michigan State hockey took their No. 1 ranking on the road to Madison, Wisconsin for a Big Ten weekend series against the Badgers.

In game one, the Spartans fell 4-0, ending their 11-game winning streak. The Spartans went into Saturday night searching for a series split.

On Saturday night, the Spartans were able to secure the split with a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Spartans, trailed 2-0 early in the game, but battled all the way back. A second period goal by former Badger Charlie Stramel cut the deficit in half, giving the momentum back in favor of the Spartans.

It wasn’t until the 2:24 mark in the third period when Joey Larson’s powerplay goal tied the game. The game went to overtime.

In overtime, it was Isaac Howard scoring a powerplay goal to get the victory for the Spartans. MSU gritted one out to get the series split.

The Spartans will go on the road once again to face Minnesota next weekend in a clash with the No. 4 team in the nation.
