Ms Marvel: Where to watch and what to expect from the newest Disney+ show

While all eyes are on Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Ewan McGregor's return to the Star Wars universe arriving with much fanfare to Disney Plus, a lower profile but still iconic hero is set to make her debut on the streaming service this week.

Ms Marvel, the latest superhero to join the ranks of Marvel's TV heroes alongside Loki, Wandavision, Hawkeye and Moon Knight, launches with the first of her eventual six-episode arc that will form the full season, with additional episodes released each week.

The show follows Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani), a teen living in Jersey City trying to fit in both at school and at home. The 16-year-old Muslim American high school student is a proud geek trying to navigate life as a teenager. She's a gamer, writes fan fiction and loves superheroes, especially Captain Marvel.

But when she discovers she has superpowers she starts to realise being a hero isn't as easy as it might look from the outside, especially when she's still juggling school bullies, crushes and her over-protective family.

There's some echoes with Peter Parker here but, assuming they stick relatively closely to the comics, this is more of a story of finding your place in the world when you're slightly different - as the child of Pakistani immigrants Kamala doesn't always agree with her parents and her older brother, but she's not quite the same as her friends at school either.

As well as newcomer Vellani, Ms Marvel also stars Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur.

The latest small screen instalment of Marvel's post-Infinity Saga Phase 4 is focused on Kamala Khan's origin story and, if the Wilson Alphona-penned comics she comes from are any indication, she's going to be a key force moving forward - alongside some other recently introduced faces.

With the long-awaited Captain Marvel sequel set for 2023 named The Marvels and Vellani already confirmed as part of the cast alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau), Ms Marvel is already confirmed as a big screen hero in her own right.

But beyond The Marvels there is a possibility that she might end up teaming with other recently-introduced characters as The Young Avengers - with Kate Bishop and America Chavez other high profile members of that group.

Ms Marvel will be available to watch from 8am UK time tomorrow (June 8) on Disney Plus. You can sign up to watch Disney Plus here, or see our hack on how Tesco customers can get to see it free here.
