Day 1 of the FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week turned out to be a star-studded affair. Two big stars of the Indian film industry, Manoj Bajpayee and Mrunal Thakur turned showstoppers for two big shows of the day.
Designer Samant Chauhan, whose signature, grand formal wear is a tribute to the embroidery and glamour of fashion visualised the beauty of his collection with flashes of the blue hues that one sees after a burst of cool rain. Bringing his dream look to reality on the runway, Samant moved away from his past choices of embellishments and instead experimented with some very heavy metallic looks that brought new dimension to the ensembles. The silhouettes however remained elaborate and majestic as the models glided down the ramp.
He ended the show with Bajpayee strutting in style, wearing a grey silk two-button jacket with two vents, peaked lapels and lavish floral embroidery on front and shoulders. The matching trousers and black shirt completed the look.
Ace designer JJ Valaya also showcased on day one. This year as the designer celebrated his 30th year in fashion JJ Valaya launched his all-new bridge-to-luxury brand “JJV”, as an eco-conscious collection made from TENCEL™ LUXE filament yarn, which is derived from renewable wood sources in a closed loop Lyocell process.
“JJV” is an occasion wear brand that revolves around the spirit of travel. As a brand, its ethos stands inspired by the unique life and travels of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala, also the land of JJ Valaya’s forefathers. “JJV” therefore sifts through never-seen-before photographs and extracts from his personal diaries and travelogues, to interpret the story of a ruler who wanted to bring the world to his people - and indeed, take his people to the world.
The spectacular showcase of this collection closed with the gorgeous Mrunal Thakur who walked the runway as the showstopper.
